After much umm-ing, aah-ing and googling over the last 2 months, we are finally ready to take delivery of our brand spanking new kitchen appliances this week :)
There's just SO much choice out there and I seriously do not know if the availability of information over the internet is really helpful. Conflicting reviews/advice, temptations of better (and a LOT more expensive) models and a limited budget makes it sehr difficult.
Introducing... our FRIDGE! :) Mitsubishi MR-BF390B. I think I will call him Derek.
Fact: Stainless Steel fridges are more sexy
Fact: Bottom-mount freezer fridges are............ better for your back. OK I just prefer them because that's what I have been using all my life x)
Fact: Stainless Steel fridges are more expensive than white fridges
Fact: Bottom-mount freezer fridges are more expensive than top mounts
Therefore, S/S bottom mount fridges = EXXY $___$
As luck has it, we wandered into the Liverpool Bing Lee early this year in search of sale specials and came across the baby version of this fridge and it was love at first sight. Well as much in love as you can be with a fridge anyway. Not only did it fit the S/S bill, it was even cheaper than most white up-side-down fridges! I took a brochure and spent the rest of the afternoon admiring it haha.
BUT for some reason... like seriously NO ONE stocks Mitsubishi fridges besides Mr Bing Lee. This makes research virtually impossible. In fact, most of the Bing Lee stores haven't even heard of this model, let alone have floor stock for us to look at (and we jumped quite a bit from one BL to another hoping to pitch their prices against each other. Did not work all that well lol) Seems like the only way to get it in is to order it in... which of course leaves you in a crappy position to bargain. :(
But alas we looked high and low and could not find another fridge with the looks and a bottom mount freezer that even came close to the price of this. Based on ONE whirlpool forum thread on Mitsubishi fridges in general, we took a leap of faith and bought it sight unseen. Fingers crossed it's not poo.
COOKING APPLIANCES...Looking for this stuff is like period pain x10,000. I cannot imagine childbirth being anymore painful than sifting through a billion different variations of ovens/cooktops that all look the same but are probably very different.
I was happy to settle with some bottom of the range appliances of some cheapcheap brands because..... I can neither cook, nor have very discerning taste buds so what's the difference. How high tech an equipment/heat control do you need to make eggs on toast. seriously. Unfortunately Ko disagreed. "This only has two cooking functions, this brand is crap it's got bad reviews blaaaaah blaaaah". Like really, he was probably looking for an oven that can also wash and fold clothes and give you a hug at the end of the day.
In the end, we found a Bosch kitchen bundle on appliances online which was kind of a happy medium - bottom of the range equipment from a slightly better brand. Though for some reason, I've always thought of "matching" kitchen appliances as somewhat of a wanker-y thing to do. No idea why.
We thought the package price was a pretty sweet deal. Until I looked up reviews on a UK website and realised how totally ripped off we are. lol.
